What Moves Your Life
It is very easy to live focused on the things you do, the activities and the resultants, and to be continually projecting and planning for the future. This latest exhibition topic, “What Moves Your Life” has called for a change of direction, to move from outward considerations to an inward exploration of what is causing each of us to do the things that we do.
Each person would probably answer this question differently. What moves our lives is at the very heart, the innermost point of each one of us, an essential part of what makes us individuals. Strip away everything else and we are left with that urge, that value, that guiding impulse.
So it has been a challenge, more than we had imagined it would be when we began, and we have each needed to find those starting questions that work for us. What do you love? What do you value? What do you want to exist in this world? What are the important themes that run through your life and history?
It has been like following a trail, spotting the tiny tracks, listening to the small guiding voices of our yesterday and our today, to find our way inside the noise of living to the enduring threads of our own motivations. T.S .Eliot described it very well: “we shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time”
In looking at this exhibition we hope you might take your own journey, add value to what it is that moves your life, and join us in the celebration that there is so much, as we live, to be moved by.

What Moves Me
HOW DO YOU DEPICT THE ‘UNSEEN WORLDS’ AND THE ORIGINATING SIGNAL FROM CREATION? WITH DIFFICULTY.
I AM LIT UP BY: THE SPARK THAT PROMOTES THOSE FIRST GREEN SHOOTS TO APPEAR AND CAUSES THE LEAVES TO BUD, WHICH HERALDS THE SPRING; OR WITHDRAWS THE SAP FOR THE GOLDEN AUTUMN LEAF FALL. THE CONSTANCY OF THE ROTATION OF THE EARTH, WHICH ENABLES DAY TO FOLLOW NIGHT TO FOLLOW DAY; OR THE SEASONS TO CHANGE. THINGS WE FREQUENTLY TAKE FOR GRANTED.
I WONDER AT THE NEW BORN LAMB, THE BABY, ALL LIFE, AS IT TAKES THAT FIRST BREATH AND CLAIMS LIVING. THE BLUEPRINT OF ALL LIFE THAT IS RELIABLE / DEPENDABLE AND CONTINUES TO REGENERATE AGAIN AND AGAIN. ALL THAT SUPPORTS US AND GIVES US THE FREEDOM OF CHOICE – WE GO TO SLEEP AT NIGHT AND HAND OVER RESPONSIBILITY TO SOMETHING ELSE, WHICH RENEWS US THEN WAKES US UP IN THE MORNING.
SCIENCE MAY SEEK TO DEFINE THE CONSTRUCTS OF LIFE OR THE WORKINGS OF CREATION – ATOMS, NEUTRONS, PROTONS, GRAVITY … BUT THERE IS MORE THAN WHAT IS VISIBLE OR DESCRIBABLE. IT DOESN’T ACCOUNT FOR THOSE FEELINGS OF BEING SUPPORTED, ATTENDED, ENHANCED BY SOMETHING ELSE – THE UNSEEN WORLDS AND SOMETHING HIGHER.
The Living Earth
Our Earth, from far in space seen as a tiny blue dot hanging in the blackness, nurtures and sustains a great diversity of life, which is extraordinary in its richness and intelligence.
In contemplating this, there is awe and an endearment for the vast multiplicity of lives, inhabiting both land, sea and air, which are not a random collection of accidental forms, but multiple expressions of the life of our Earth; this Earth which is a living and sentient being, that gives birth to other living, sentient beings, who are her charge and creation, as ordained by universal law
Fine-spun filaments cast upon shoreless seas,
weaving webs of stars and
wings of angels.
to glide on
lines of truth,
back to the place
all unknowing ever knowing.
Spinning on spiral vines
and dancing into the deep, released from yester-being.
to the womb of belonging and becoming...
As Above So Below
What moves me? The wonder of beating wings and tiny hearts flying thousands of miles, crossing continents, following their ‘Creation gifted inner guidance.
Each specie with its own knowing, and its own need, migrating to where its nourishment is to be found.
And is it any different for us? Do we not have the inner guidance of our Spirit, each one of us, nudging us on, if feel it we can?
What moves me then? The awe, the miracle, the engineering, the gifting, to choose which way to follow, and maybe, who knows, to navigate beyond our planet to the stars.
